The phrase “waterproof vinyl flooring” can cause confusion. A waterproof SPC core helps the plank resist water, but it does not turn the whole room into a tank. Water can still travel beneath flooring and affect screed, walls or surrounding joinery. The correct installation is essential.
What makes SPC different
Titan SPC uses a rigid mineral-polymer core and is advertised as a waterproof product. Its published specification includes 6mm overall thickness, a 0.5mm wear layer and 1mm attached IXPE. Compare the click system, locking joints and underfloor requirements before selecting it for a wet-prone room.
Spills are not the same as flooding
Ordinary splashes and prompt wipe-ups are very different from standing water that reaches walls, thresholds or beneath the boards. In kitchens and busy homes, confirm how the manufacturer defines normal exposure and what its warranty excludes. Do not advertise SPC as a replacement for a properly waterproofed bathroom floor.
Subfloor moisture still needs attention
Even waterproof boards should not be fitted over unsuitable or water-damaged screeds. Installation depends on the manufacturer’s limits for flatness, vapour conditions and joint movement. An installer should assess the actual building before laying the product.
Quote the full floor system
Ask for the Titan SPC material at the published R389/m² rate, plus any required profiles and delivery. Provide approximate m², the room type and suburb. The sales team can confirm suitable options and current stock.
How this compares with 8 mm wide-plank laminate
Titan Classic and Titan Elite laminate offer a 240 mm timber-look plank, wax-treated click/V-groove details and AC3 or AC4 abrasion ratings. Selected laminate finishes have EIR-style wood-grain texture. They are water-resistant to limited surface spills, not waterproof; Titan SPC has a waterproof core. Choose by room conditions, overall material-and-fitting cost and the independent installer’s recommendations.
Waterproof board versus waterproof room
Rigid SPC material can resist water exposure at the board level, but the floor installation cannot replace a wet-area waterproofing membrane or solve an active leak.
Ask the installer about edge details, wet-area manufacturer exclusions and concrete moisture conditions before placing SPC.
Questions buyers ask
Can SPC be installed in a bathroom?
Only if the complete system and building conditions are approved for that setting. Waterproof planks do not waterproof the substrate or perimeter.
Is attached IXPE enough for every installation?
Not automatically. Follow the product instructions and do not add extra underlay unless approved.
