Choose high-quality 8 mm laminate with a 240 mm wide-plank look, AC3 or AC4 wear classification, wax-treated V-groove/click details and selected EIR wood-textured designs. Wax treatment helps resist everyday surface spills when cleaned promptly; laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof. Ask about reliable independent professional floor installers with 10+ years’ experience, available by referral in selected areas. FlooringXpress supplies the material; labour and workmanship are quoted separately by the installer.

When comparing SPC flooring, a label such as “6mm” can hide important differences. The total measurement may include attached backing, while the wear layer is its own separate protective surface. Knowing the breakdown makes quotes much easier to compare fairly.

Understand the Titan SPC build-up

FlooringXpress currently lists Titan SPC as a 6mm total product consisting of a 5mm component and 1mm IXPE backing. It also lists a 0.5mm wear layer and 230mm wide planks. The 0.5mm surface is not an extra 0.5mm added to the 6mm advertised overall thickness.

Wear layer versus overall thickness

The wear layer is designed to take surface traffic. Overall thickness also affects the board’s fit and joint geometry, but does not by itself indicate wear resistance. When two suppliers quote similar-looking vinyl planks, compare both measurements and the approved use classification.

Check the backing and substrate

Attached IXPE is part of the Titan SPC system. An installer should confirm whether additional layers are prohibited or permitted. A rigid click plank still needs an appropriately flat and dry substrate; attached backing is not a cure for deep dips or moisture problems.

Understand the project price

Titan SPC is advertised at R389/m² for materials. Ask about exact cartons, trims, required preparation and delivery. Include the suburb, room dimensions and any door heights when requesting the quote.

How this compares with 8 mm wide-plank laminate

Titan Classic and Titan Elite laminate offer a 240 mm timber-look plank, wax-treated click/V-groove details and AC3 or AC4 abrasion ratings. Selected laminate finishes have EIR-style wood-grain texture. They are water-resistant to limited surface spills, not waterproof; Titan SPC has a waterproof core. Choose by room conditions, overall material-and-fitting cost and the independent installer’s recommendations.

A purchasing decision worth checking

For 6mm spc flooring with 0.5mm wear layer explained, compare the actual product specification and room conditions—not just a photograph or headline claim. Ask about wear class, core construction, fit method, treatment of surface spills and colour-batch continuity.

A usable quotation specifies material m², purchased full boxes, required underlay, skirting or profiles and delivered cost. An independent fitter should assess moisture, subfloor flatness and laying details before work is scheduled.

Questions buyers ask

Is a 0.5mm wear layer the same as a 0.5mm plank?

No. It describes the protective wear surface within a thicker SPC product.

Why does attached IXPE matter?

It affects system construction and underfoot feel, but installation must still follow the product manufacturer’s specifications.

Can FlooringXpress recommend a reliable installer?

Ask our team about independent professional flooring installers, including experienced fitters with 10+ years of installation experience, subject to your area and current availability. Installation labour, site assessment, fitting dates and workmanship terms are agreed directly with the installer; FlooringXpress supplies the flooring materials.
