A flooring decision should start with the actual room and project requirements. Plan rigid-core SPC click vinyl correctly: substrate, attached IXPE underlay, movement allowance, wet rooms, doorways and installer handover.
Understand the Titan SPC construction
The advertised Titan SPC specification is 6 mm overall with a 0.5 mm wear layer and approximately 1 mm integrated IXPE backing. The core is waterproof, but that does not make the completed room waterproof or eliminate the need to evaluate subfloor moisture.
Measure substrate flatness; do not rely on rigidity
Rigid SPC often feels firm in the hand, but its click-lock edges can be stressed by high spots and hollows. Ask the fitter to record any tolerance failures and correct the base to the manufacturer’s published requirements before fitting.
Review existing tiles and joins
Existing tiles may be suitable only if stable, sufficiently flat and dry, with grout joints and lippage evaluated. A visual check from standing height cannot replace checking the surface with appropriate tools.
Keep to the specified underlay system
Integrated IXPE does not automatically permit extra foam below the board. Doubling up without the supplier’s written approval can increase vertical movement at joints and create avoidable claims.
Discuss heavy fixtures and large rooms
Floating floors must be able to move in accordance with the product instructions. Ask how islands, heavy built-ins, fixed wardrobes and door thresholds are dealt with before work starts.
Bathrooms, kitchens and wet areas
A waterproof SPC board is not a substitute for a waterproofing membrane or a well-maintained shower enclosure. Verify the specific manufacturer’s conditions for wet rooms, standing water, perimeter sealing and subfloor damp.
Handover and care
Keep the specification and batch details, inspect locking joins, review skirtings and profiles and agree appropriate cleaning products. Ask an independent installer for workmanship terms separately from the material warranty.
What to include in a proper flooring quotation
- Actual room-by-room measurements and cutting allowance confirmed by your installer.
- Selected product name, thickness, wear classification, colour and full-box quantity.
- Underlay, moisture management, skirtings and transition profiles where needed.
- Current material price, stock, VAT treatment and delivery/collection details.
- Any independent fitting scope, preparation work and workmanship terms.
Materials supplier since 2018. The advertised Titan 8 mm laminate uses 240 mm wide planks and wax-treated grooves. These improve resistance to incidental cleaned-up splashes; laminate is not fully waterproof. EIR is a texture feature on selected designs. Fitting is available through independent professional installer referrals subject to availability and verification.
Questions buyers ask
Is SPC waterproof?
The product core is described as waterproof; the floor assembly and building are not automatically waterproof.
Can I use extra underlay under IXPE-backed SPC?
Only if expressly approved in writing for the exact SPC system.
Is SPC the same as glue-down LVT?
No. Their installation methods, substrate preparation, tolerances and maintenance considerations differ.
