Choose high-quality 8 mm laminate with a 240 mm wide-plank look, AC3 or AC4 wear classification, wax-treated V-groove/click details and selected EIR wood-textured designs. Wax treatment helps resist everyday surface spills when cleaned promptly; laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof. Ask about reliable independent professional floor installers with 10+ years’ experience, available by referral in selected areas. FlooringXpress supplies the material; labour and workmanship are quoted separately by the installer.

A flooring decision should start with the actual room and project requirements. A practical laminate installation sequence: subfloor checks, box inspection, layout, underlay, click joints, transitions and final handover.

1. Inspect the room before accepting delivery

Record the size and shape of each room, the position of doors, floor-height changes and any areas that have suffered dampness. A professional fitter should check the actual substrate condition and whether the work can proceed safely. Photograph any suspicious patches rather than covering them with a new floor.

2. Assess substrate moisture and flatness

Confirm whether the base is concrete, screed, timber or stable existing tiles. Use an appropriate moisture-testing method and compare the reading with the limits in the exact flooring and underlay instructions. A wet or uneven base must be corrected before fitting; the floor boards and underlay are not a remedy for underlying building damp.

3. Inspect cartons, colour and batch

Before fitting begins, compare the product and colour against the order, check quantities and look for visible plank damage. Keep the batch information. Planks that are visibly damaged or incorrect should not be installed in the hope that the issue can be corrected later.

4. Plan plank direction and movement

Discuss whether the longest sight line, the main window light or the adjoining room transitions should influence plank direction. Identify fixed cupboards, door frames and long connected spans. Perimeter movement allowances, doorway breaks and maximum continuous spans must follow that product’s fitting instructions.

5. Fit the specified underlay and click system

Lay the underlay and any required moisture layer as instructed by the supplier, keeping seams and overlaps correct for that system. Engage click profiles without forcing or damaging the joints. Avoid layering unapproved soft underlays, which can create excess flex under the locking system.

6. Finish transitions, skirtings and thresholds

Use suitable end profiles where laminate meets tiles, doors or steps. Skirtings should conceal perimeter movement space without pinning the floating floor in place. Recheck door opening clearance and visible plank joints before furniture is returned.

7. Photograph, maintain and document

Collect spare cartons, product batch details, material receipts, an installation checklist and a record of any substrate work. Ask who is responsible for labour workmanship and how it differs from the flooring material warranty. Cleaning should use a suitable low-moisture method: wax-treated laminate joints help with limited surface splashes but are not waterproof.

What to include in a proper flooring quotation

  1. Actual room-by-room measurements and cutting allowance confirmed by your installer.
  2. Selected product name, thickness, wear classification, colour and full-box quantity.
  3. Underlay, moisture management, skirtings and transition profiles where needed.
  4. Current material price, stock, VAT treatment and delivery/collection details.
  5. Any independent fitting scope, preparation work and workmanship terms.

Materials supplier since 2018. The advertised Titan 8 mm laminate uses 240 mm wide planks and wax-treated grooves. These improve resistance to incidental cleaned-up splashes; laminate is not fully waterproof. EIR is a texture feature on selected designs. Fitting is available through independent professional installer referrals subject to availability and verification.

Questions buyers ask

Does FlooringXpress install the floor?

FlooringXpress supplies materials and can refer independent professional installers. Labour, site assessment and workmanship terms are agreed with the installer.

How long must laminate acclimatise?

Use the exact product instructions and the site conditions. A universal fixed acclimatisation period is not reliable for every system.

Can 8 mm laminate cover tiles?

Sometimes, but only after assessing stability, flatness, height, moisture and the flooring manufacturer’s requirements.
