Choose high-quality 8 mm laminate with a 240 mm wide-plank look, AC3 or AC4 wear classification, wax-treated V-groove/click details and selected EIR wood-textured designs. Wax treatment helps resist everyday surface spills when cleaned promptly; laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof. Ask about reliable independent professional floor installers with 10+ years’ experience, available by referral in selected areas. FlooringXpress supplies the material; labour and workmanship are quoted separately by the installer.

Good laminate can fail because of a poor installation environment. FlooringXpress supplies materials and can refer independent installers, but fitting should follow the actual product instructions and be performed by a competent installer. Use this checklist before labour is booked.

Check the site before the boxes arrive

An installer should inspect subfloor flatness and moisture with suitable methods, assess existing tiles or screed, and check that door clearance and transitions will work. The right preparation depends on whether the substrate is concrete, timber or another existing floor.

Check every box before fitting

Confirm product name, thickness, colour, quantity, visible plank condition and batch information. Report obvious transport or manufacturing concerns before installation. Do not fit visibly damaged or incorrect goods on the assumption that a later complaint can reverse the work.

Install with the correct system details

Use underlay specified for the product, allow the required perimeter movement gaps and follow all click-lock instructions. An installer must plan large continuous rooms, doorways and changes of direction. Wax-treated grooves do not substitute for moisture protection.

Finish carefully and maintain

Check skirting and thresholds, keep expansion allowances unobstructed and remove abrasive construction debris before furniture is returned. Use appropriate furniture pads. Keep photographs and product documents in case a later warranty issue must be assessed.

A practical pre-installation inspection sequence

Before materials arrive: confirm the exact floor area and allow sensible cuts; inspect whether the subfloor is concrete, tiles or another approved substrate; and ask the installer what tests the chosen flooring manufacturer requires. New screed should not be assumed dry simply because its surface looks light in colour. Manufacturer moisture limits and installation instructions govern the project.

On delivery: cross-check cartons for the specified range, colour, batch, number of boxes and visible damage. Store and acclimatise flooring as required by the manufacturer's instructions rather than applying a single universal time. Open different boxes as instructed to blend natural pattern variation.

During installation: check subfloor flatness, correct underlay or moisture barrier, expansion clearances at fixed boundaries, appropriate door thresholds, and joint layout. A floating floor must be able to move within the system's approved rules. Skirtings should normally cover rather than clamp the movement gap.

Before accepting the finished job: inspect daylight colour consistency, edges, transitions, doors, visible damage and cleaning guidance. FlooringXpress sells the materials; your selected installer is responsible for site measurements, substrate assessment and fitting workmanship.

Experienced installers and fitment quality

FlooringXpress can refer customers to independent professional flooring installers, including installers with 10+ years of installation experience, subject to availability and service area. The installer—not the flooring material supplier—must verify site conditions, assess moisture and flatness, recommend any underlay and carry out the work to the product instructions. Confirm labour cost, workmanship terms and any installer warranty in writing.

What to check before the first plank

Check deliveries against the order and inspect colour, carton batch and visible damage before installation. Confirm that the substrate is suitable, the required moisture measurements have been completed, door clearances and expansion joints are planned, and the exact manufacturer fitting method is followed. Installation should not begin on a visibly unsuitable substrate.

Wax-treated laminate is still not waterproof

The wax-treated click/groove profile helps reduce ordinary moisture ingress at the board join when spills are cleaned promptly. It does not make an 8 mm HDF laminate plank waterproof, protect against flooding, or overcome a wet subfloor. Ask whether waterproof-core SPC is more appropriate for the room.

A pre-fit handover worth doing

Write down substrate type, measured moisture condition, floor level changes, expansion details and trim list. Ask the installer to photograph existing defects and keep the manufacturer instructions with the job paperwork.

Do not promise universal acclimatisation times, expansion-gap measurements or moisture limits: these are system- and site-specific.

Questions buyers ask

Does FlooringXpress include installation?

No. It supplies materials and can discuss independent installer referrals.

Can I install over a damp screed?

Not without appropriate remediation and a manufacturer-approved installation system. The installer must assess moisture first.

Can FlooringXpress recommend a reliable installer?

Ask our team about independent professional flooring installers, including experienced fitters with 10+ years of installation experience, subject to your area and current availability. Installation labour, site assessment, fitting dates and workmanship terms are agreed directly with the installer; FlooringXpress supplies the flooring materials.
